In 1865, Napoleon III commissioned Baron Haussmann to renovate the western part of Paris, which was then a sprawling, working-class suburb. This ambitious project, dubbed the 'Haussmannization' of Paris Ouest, transformed the area into the elegant and affluent district we know today. The transformation included the construction of grand boulevards, such as Rue de Rivoli and Avenue des Champs-Élysées, as well as the installation of modern sewer systems and gas lighting. Today, Paris Ouest is home to many iconic landmarks, including the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe.
